First Fight Friday: Revenge, The Cowboy Way by Penny Estelle

Goats solve their differences head-on. They don’t give the silent treatment or yell, they butt heads, and then it’s over.

Cowboy Marvin has learned humans resolve issues differently especially those romantically involved. His curiosity sparked, he has invited authors to stop by on Fridays and share the first fight out of their latest book.

First Fight Friday

with a scene from

Revenge, The Cowboy Way

When Brian Thornton is taken by surprise at gunpoint, while in the bed of a beautiful, wealthy woman, he swears his revenge.

Joanna Simmons is snatched out of her home and taken to Brian's hometown where an emotional war wages between them, keeping happiness at bay.

Revenge, the Cowboy Way, is the story of hate, love and revenge.

The question is whose revenge is it?

“Andy, you have one of two choices. I can turn you over to the law, or you can come with me, on my ship, to Texas. When we dock, you can stay with the ship if it’s to your liking, or you can learn the ways of ranching.”

“What about Jo?” The boy’s eyes darted from Joanna to Brian.

An evil gleam sparkled in Brian’s eyes. “Joanna will be coming with me, regardless of your decision.”

Joanna hadn’t been listening up to that point, trying to figure some way out of this mess, but the impact of his last statement came through loud and clear. She looked as though thunderstruck. “You must be out of your mind!”

Brian watched as Andy looked to Joanna for help. “You will not find any help from Joanna. Now which will it be?”

“I’ll come with you, sir,” Andy replied meekly.

“Do you think I’ll come with you just like that?” Joanna demanded.

Brian ignored her. “My ship, Thornton’s Folly, is docked at the harbor. Can you find it?” Andy nodded. “I want you to go back to my ship and talk to Barney—only Barney. Tell him I sent you, and I want him to get everything ready to go. I’ll be along shortly. One more thing,” he said as Andy turned to leave. “If you try to cross me, I’ll kill your friend.”

Andy nodded and took off without a glance toward Joanna. Using only a halter, he jumped on his horse and headed toward town. He raised his eyes to the stars. “Lord, did you send this man to save us? I sure hope I’m doing the right thing here.” Andy dug his heels in and galloped as fast as he could toward the harbor.

Joanna had been studying Brian. He had coal black hair that hung just below his collar. His eyes were emerald green, which turned a shade darker when he was angry. With an icy calm she was far from feeling, she asked, “Now what? Do you think I’m going to ride calmly through town to your damn boat?” Brian said nothing. “Look,” she said, her voice held a note of panic, “all we took of yours was your gun, and I’ll give it back to you!”

“You’ll be gone for some time. I hear you’re well-protected, so I presume your neighbors will come over eventually and find you gone.” Brian holstered his gun and moved to glance in the kitchen. “I’m sure they’ll take care of your horses and anything else needing attention.”

Joanna made her move. Dashing passed him, she reached the door but was stopped short as he grabbed a handful of hair and yanked her back to face him. Pulling the sash from her robe he twisted her hands behind her back and tied them. Her screaming was quieted when he gagged her and laid her on the floor. Brian chuckled at her murderous glare.

Penny's bio:

I was a school secretary for 21 years, retiring in 2009. We moved to our retirement home in Kingman, AZ. We live on 54 acres in a very rural area. Actually we live “off the grid”, on solar and wind only. A real adjustment for a city girl. I love it. Nothing like walking out your front door and hear coyotes howling and seeing a sky bursting with stars. It is breathtaking!

I write for all ages – from the very young, to the “Young at Heart” older folks! From time travel adventures to family drama and romances.
