First Fight Friday: The Eligible Princess: Princess Lakshaya (Kamboj Princesses Saga Book 2) by Summerita Rhayne

Goats solve their differences head-on. They don’t give the silent treatment or yell, they butt heads, then it’s over.

Cowboy Marvin has learned humans resolve issues differently especially those romantically involved. His curiosity sparked, he has invited authors to stop by on Fridays and share the first fight out of their latest book.

First Fight Friday

with a scene from

The Eligible Princess: Princess Lakshaya
(Kamboj Princesses Saga Book 2)

King Kartikeya is determined to do anything to keep the kingdom he
has taken with strategy and sheer guts. If that involves
charming a princess into marriage, then so be it.

Princess Lakshaya infinitely prefers the study of science to
the art of impressing a suitor. But refusing a king as
opulent as Kartik is out of question.

Lakshaya frowned when her ride came to an abrupt halt. Another, bigger elephant was lined up at the gate. An elephant dressed up in gold and glitter. Lakshaya pulled away the curtain of her palanquin fully and found her mount abreast of King Kartikeya’s.

‘Let me go first, Maharaj,’ she said, without preamble. ‘I was here before you.’

Laughing dark eyes stared back at her. His voice easily carried over the distance to her. ‘Rajkumari, a man must always go first. To make sure the path is clear and safe for the lady.’

‘You are late, shrimath,’ she yelled back. Then blushed a little and said more temperately. ‘You should have come earlier if you wanted to go first.’

The mahouts began to wait for them to settle it. Kartik gestured and drew his elephant still closer to the princess’s. The foot soldiers began to smile at this little domestic scene playing out in front of them.

Lakshaya knew she should back down but that complacent smile on his face incensed her. She began to remember why she was upset about his marriage proposal. He hadn’t bothered to let her know, had he? While the true format was to approach the parents first, the kings who loved their queens made sure they were acquiescent even before going to the swayamwar. They weren’t in love but he had rather taken for granted he would be accepted, hadn’t he?

The wind blew from east to west and carried his words to her away from others’ hearing. ‘Let me take care of you, princess. Soon I would, in any case.’

Velvet words. Was she supposed to melt on hearing them? ‘I’m not sure a king who takes so long to get ready will suit me,’ she shot back.

He threw back his head and laughed. ‘You’re early, I’m not late.’

‘I don’t have to wear ten thousand ornaments.’ She threw a disdainful look at his armlets and the multiple chains gracing his broad chest along with the broad gold chest piece.

‘If I didn’t, who would know me as the ruler?’ he said in pure grammatically correct Sanskrit. ‘I would be outlawed. I might be recognized for what I truly am.’

‘What you are truly?' She reiterated, curiosity piqued further when he grinned but said nothing. 'What do you mean? What is it that you might be recognized as?’

‘As a sthaga,’ he said in a low voice only she could hear.

‘A ruffian?’ she whispered, afraid she had misheard him and might commit a blunder in speaking it aloud.

He had read the movement of her lips because he continued. ‘You think I could not be a ruffian? I’m a looter, Princess Lakshaya. Haven’t you heard?’

He was leading her on! ‘From your doot?’ she shot back. ‘So you boast of what he was told to convey to us? That you steal maidens’ hearts when you look at them? I heartily mislike the overly admiring phrases, I’ll have you know.’

‘I’ll banish him when I get back,’ he said, grinning. ‘How dare he annoy a princess? Now, should I proceed?’

‘Of course not. And I never asked you to banish the poor man!’ Her throat would get parched if she continued to shout.

‘Oh now he’s a poor man, is he? If not his banishment, then tell me, what would please you?’

‘Give him some task like writing a poetry volume on Bagalpur.’ she said. Her anger was evaporating at his obvious attempt to placate, a smile beginning to peep out at his serious inquiry. Was King Kartik really set on pleasing her as he showed he was, to ask her what should be done about his staff? Maybe she had misjudged him about the sudden proposal. She must ask him why he had proposed in a rush when the moment was more opportune. ‘His language was good,’ she conceded.

‘Sounds perfect. So I agree to your wish and now you must agree to mine.’ ‘Ah! So that is how the land lies. You want to have your own way at all costs.’ She darted him a miffed glance

First Fight Friday

with a scene from

High Heels & Bicycle Wheels

Meet Bryony: She's a fun-loving, very single TV production assistant whose idea of sport is the Jimmy Choo sales scrum

Meet Jackson: Cycling's bad boy superstar. Injured and out of racing this summer, without his training he's looking for another distraction.

Jackson and Bryony are having lunch

two hours into the first day of their trip together

A trip that neither of them wants to be on and

their power struggles have already begun.

‘You almost sound like you have every detail of the trip worked out already?’ Jackson raised one eyebrow in query. That would be with no consultation with him at all. Regardless of the wow factor, he couldn’t let this pass without comment. ‘Slightly ridiculous seeing I’m the one calling the shots here.’

Bryony put down the linen napkin she was shaking out and eyeballed him.

‘Er excuse me?’ For a split second her mouth fell open, and he basked in the luxury of shocked silence. Then she kicked into overdrive. ‘As production manager here, any shots to be called are technically mine.’

‘Hang on.’ He wasn’t letting her get away with that. ‘I thought you were a mere production assistant?’

‘Which translates to manager in the absence of a superior team member.’ Her elbows arrived on the table now, her chin resting on neatly woven fingers. ‘Whereas you’re simply a featured celebrity, which may count for gazillions in terms of fans, but when it comes to organisational decisions out in TV production land, it counts for zilch.’

One uninterrupted view of those perfect teeth of hers as she posted him another inscrutable beam, putting him instantly in mind of how easily his tongue slipped past those teeth back in Scarborough, dammit. He wasn’t fighting with his usual unerring full-strength concentration here. His mind was on the job, just the wrong job, and if he didn’t watch out it was going to cost him dearly. Still she could be bullshitting here, and two could play at that game.

‘Featured celebrity with a possible executive producer’s interest.’ He watched through narrowed eyes as her expression slid.

‘You’re coming in as a backer?’ Her mouth and eyes popped to perfect O’s.

Result. She’d swallowed it.

‘Possibly.’ Backtracking now on every front except the power one and not exactly lying either. Financial involvement had been mentioned, in passing. ‘But I already have the final say on input and content, so I’m guessing those shots are mine to call after all.’

Race won. Mentally he let go of the handlebars, punched the air with a fist, and he was whooshing across the finish line ahead of her when he noticed she was still smiling. Benignly.

‘That’s what the backers always like to think.’ Was that the tiniest hint of a mocking wink she was sending him? A full-blown satisfied gloat more likely. ‘In practice everyone knows it’s all in the hands of the production assistants. Has to be. We’re the ones who do all the work. Talking of which, I’d better go and shake up that waiter and his menus.’

Meet Bryony: She's a fun-loving, very single TV production assistant whose idea of sport is the Jimmy Choo sales scrum

Meet Jackson: Cycling's bad boy superstar. Injured and out of racing this summer, without his training he's looking for another distraction.

Bryony's facing a triple whammy – her last single friend just named the day, her mother's offering to have her eggs frozen, and the guy she's loved from afar, forever, just got hitched. So she's more than happy to accept the offer of a totally out of character but seriously steamy one night of no-strings fun. Especially when the guy in question is so attractive he even looks good in Lycra!

Jackson's on the look out for a new career but if the opportunity to work on TV means a fortnight with the most uptight woman in the world, he'd rather not bother. He never goes in for seconds – and who in their right mind would head off in a camper van with a woman who irons her knickers?

Add in a tandem (yes, a tandem) and fast forward to double trouble for a summer neither of them will ever forget!

About Jane:

I write fun, flirty fiction, with feisty heroines and a bit of an edge.

I live in a mountain kingdom in Derbyshire, England, where my family and pets are kind enough to ignore the domestic chaos – happily, we’re in walking distance of a supermarket. For me, writing romance is cool because I get to wear pretty shoes instead of wellies. I love hearts, flowers, happy endings, all things vintage, most things french.

When I’m not on facebook, and can’t find an excuse for shopping, I’ll be walking, or gardening. On days when I want to be really scared, I ride a tandem.

Goat Facts with Cowboy Marvin

The proper name for a group of goats is a trip.

Baby goats are kids.

Males are called bucks, females are called does.
A domestic male is sometimes called a billy; a female, a nanny or in my case, Cowboy Marvin.

Goats are great swimmers, if a goat is silly enough to go into the water.
I wouldn't, a according to Ms. Hulsman dangerous critters with sharp teeth lurk there.

If bottled raised, goats will become bonded to their caregivers.

Goats discovered coffee beans.

Goats don't eat tin cans.
They are browsers not grazers and are are extremely picky about what they eat.

Goats have rectangular eyes - this allows them to see very well in the dark.

Goats use straw to scratch their backs.

Cashmere comes from the undercoat of the Asian Kashmiri goat, with the average annual yield per animal being less than one pound.

Mohair comes from the Turkish Angora goat.

Most mohair now comes from Angora fleece raised in the U.S., with the average annual yield per animal being four pounds.

Goats are great as stock animals and are easier on the trail than other pack/stock animals.
Properly conditioned, a goat can carry up to 25%-30% of its body weight.

And, of course,
goats are
awesome interviewers!
